WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE INSTALLATION PROCESS?

  • 1. Preparing your Concrete Surface

    • At Pace X, we start with the removal of the existing sealer or failing coatings.
    • We perform a concrete hardness test. Using the Mohs concrete surface hardness scratch test, we can find the hardness of the concrete relative to the Mohs’ hardness scale. This test helps the crew pick the correct diamond grinder settings.
    • We evaluate structural issues, cracks, severe pitting, and/or spalling.
    • We perform a Moisture Evaluation of the concrete slab. Any slab with a high moisture emission rate will always be detrimental to a successful flooring installation.
  • 2. Diamond Grind Your Existing Concrete Floor

    • Pace X uses commercial grinding equipment including large walk-behind grinders, and hand grinders for edging, control joints, crack chasing, and all those hard to get to areas.
    • Diamond grinding is the industry standard for attaining a proper “Concrete Surface Profile”.
  • 3. Repairs & Resurfacing

    • Any visible cracks are repaired with a Penntek Polyurea Concrete Mender product.
    • Severe cracks will be opened first cleaning and grinding both sides of the cracks.
    • Pitted or Spalled areas will be filled using our Polyurea Mender Product to level off the low spots.
    • Once the mender is cured the area is diamond grinded again to take down any high spots and scuff up the mended area.
    • Note this process does not level the entire floor. This process will smooth out the floor surface, so the low areas are less noticeable.
  • 4. Broadcast System Application

    • Base Coat Application of the floor and Verticals, Penntek Polyurea is mixed to cut in the edges and control joints first and the floor surface is rolled out covering 100% of the concrete surface.
    • Broadcasting Vinyl Color Chips as the base coat is still wet, the crew will broadcast the vinyl color flakes into the base coat. It is hand-broadcasted at 100% plus to achieve a uniform color and texture.
    • Chip Scraping starts once the base coat is cured (1-1.5 hours); the cut and scrape process is to remove chips that did not adhere to the floor or chips that adhered on an upward angle. This removes any rough areas from the floor. Excess chips are reclaimed, and smaller shavings are discarded by completely vacuuming and blowing out all loose chips.
  • 5. Clear Coat to Finish

    • Clear Coat Layer is the final layer of the product. “The Penntek Polyaspartic Polyurea product is one of the most durable clear coats you can get on a garage floor.” The crew will squeegee out the clear coat onto the floor to get a uniform amount of clear coat coverage, then lightly back roll to even out the product and avoid heavy or light spots.
    • Once all steps are completed, the floor is completed, and you can walk on the floor in 4 hours and drive on in 24 hours.
